AMBEN AMANTE SEMINAR ON CAMPUS JOURNALISM KICKS OFF

San Pablo City – The Amben S. Amante Seminar on Campus Journalism will make its round to the public elementary and high school campuses through out this city for a series of lectures to enhance the talents of the student in communication, particularly the incoming staff of school paper through the sponsorship of City Administrator Loreto “Amben” S. Amante.

Designed primarily to give students practice in communicating ideas, the little course aims to build the confidence of the pupils at the grass roots in expressing their emotions, correctly, clearly and effectively with emphasis on practical writing in their entire student life to serve as foundation against the challenges for whatever career they may opt to choose.

In partnership with the Office of the City Mayor, Seven Lakes Press Corps (SLPC) and various local newspaper of the city, the lectures will tackle the fundamentals in writing a composition and general idea in composing newspaper articles such as news, editorial, features and other contents relative to the principles of unity, coherence and emphasis.

SLPC President and Herald Publications columnist Nani Cortez will be the main resource person and class session will be every Tuesday and Thursday. His maiden lecture was at San Vicente Elementary School last August 12.

SAN PABLO CITY PNP STATION, BEST PCR SA CALABARZON (Insp. Rolando Libed, Best Junior PCO)

Camp Vicente Lim, Laguna - Tinanghal na Best Police Community Relatives (PCR) sa buong Calabarzon ang San Pablo City Police Station (SPCPS) sa pagtatapos ng pagdiriwang ng PCR Month dahil sa katangi-tanging pagsusulong nito ng mga programang pang-komunidad sanhi upang makamit ng Philippine National Police (PNP) ang katuparan ng kanyang misyon.

Nagwagi rin si P/Inspector Rolando Libed bilang best Junior Police Commissioned Officer city police station level sa buong rehiyon bilang hepe ng PCR ng SPCPS.

Ang parangal na ipinagkaloob ni Calabarzon PNP Chief P/Chief Superintendent Ricardo Padilla, Jr., kay SPCPS COP P/Supt. Joel C. Pernito ay sanhi ng walang humpay na pakikipag-ugnayan ng kapulisan sa mga barangay ng lunsod na nagresulta sa pagbaba ng kriminalidad sa naturang lugar.

Kasama sa mga programang ipinatutupad ni COP Pernito bukod sa barangay visitation ay ang paglalapit ng kapulisan sa simbahan, pagsasagawa ng feeding program, pakikiisa sa mga proyekto ng mga NGO at mga samahang sibiko sa mga makabayang pagsusulong para sa kapakinabangan ng mga San Pableño.

Nagawa ring lunasan ni Pernito ang suliranin ukol sa kakulangan ng Pulis nang mahikayat ang mga concerned citizen na makikipagtulungan sa pulisya sa pagsugpo ng krimen sa lunsod.

Sa panayam kay Hepe Pernito makaraang tanggapin ang parangal ay kanyang sinabi na ang lahat ay dahilan sa disiplina at sipag ng mga pulis San Pablo sa pagpapanatili ng peace and order sa kanilang area of responsibility. Sila ang dapat nating pasalamatan.

TEACHING OUR GOD-GIVEN MISSION

What you sow, you shall reap. When you deposit, you can withdraw.

These are some of the golden principles that we can apply in teaching. Some teachers are greatly loved by a lot of students. Their students respect and admire them. What are their secrets?

I remember my high school days, I have encountered a lot of good teachers. When I say good teachers it means they are effective teachers. I have learned a lot of things from them. But one of my mathematics teachers, Mrs. Reyes, surpassed the others.

I have learned a lot of things from Ma’am Reyes. I saw her passion for teaching. I felt her concern for us. I remember during our math class, she was always giving us challenging math problems like the area of the shaded portion, that’s my favorite topic! She used to encourage us to be patient in solving math problems. I saw her dedication in teaching. She spent a lot time, even her personal time, in training her students for math competitions. She also has a big heart in sharing her knowledge to other teachers. Truly, she is an exceptional teacher for me. Her ways of teaching challenged and inspired me to explore and love mathematics more, and that is the reason why I decided to be a math teacher.

What is in her? It is her passion for teaching mathematics and her love for her students that made the difference.

Let us show our students our passion for teaching. Show them our love and concern for them even in small things. Allow them to realize and appreciate that we are doing everything to give them quality education. Let them feel that we care for their future. Encourage them to be enthusiastic to learn not just the subject we teach but also the ways on how they can improve themselves.

If we deposit love and concern to our students, we can withdraw their trust and respect.

If we sow good things to our students, we can reap excellent things from them.

KAILANGAN SINA BARANGAY CHAIRMAN

Marami ang nagtataka’t nagtatanong kung bakit sa kabila ng pwersa ng mga barangay chairmen ng lunsod ay sa ilang nakalipas na halalan ay walang nakalulusot na punong barangay patungo sa Sangguniang Panlunsod.

Ang barangay ang pinaka-maliit na bahagi ng pamahalaan na nandoon tuwina sa pinaka-ilalim ng sistemang umiiral, at ang tanong marahil ay saan ba nagbubuhat ang bulto ng mga botante? Hindi nga ba’t sa lahat ng barangay? Ang isa pa’y , bakit hindi ito napapakinabangan ng mga barangay chairman sa kanilang pagtakbo bilang konsehal ng Lunsod?

Pinaka-una sa talaan ng mga kadahilanan ay ang pressure na nararamdaman ng bawat barangay chairman tuwing halalan. Nagpaparaya sila sa prayoridad na naglalagay lang sa background na katatayuan ng kanilang sariling kapakanan. Ang resulta nito’y nalilimutan nila ang kanilang sarili na lingid sa kanila’y nagpapahina’t nakakabawas sa angkin nilang lakas.

Sa kalakaran ng bawat halalan ay pasan ng isang barangay chairman ang bigat ng nakaatang na pagnanais na maipagwagi ang kandidatura ng isinusulong niyang kongresista, gobernador, bise-gobernador, mayor at vice-mayor. Ito ang konsentrasyon ng kanyang kampanya sa barangay, na marahil ay nangyayari dahil sa pangambang mawikaan ng kanyang mga nasasakupan na “aba, chairman tirhan mo naman kami kahit konsehal”.

Ang isa pang masakit na katotohanan ay nagbubuhat sa kaisipan ng mga taong-barangay sanhi ng kanilang pag-idolo kay Chairman, na hindi naman maiiwasan. Sa limang tatakbong chairman bilang konsehal ng lunsod ay asahan mong solid ang botong makukuha ng bawat chairman sa kanilang sariling barangay samantalang ang apat, malamang ang sa hindi, ay wala sa winning circle.

May ilan pang kadahilanan kung bakit wala tayong barangay chairman na nagwawagi bilang City Councilor at ito’y hindi na natin tatalakayin sapagkat maituturing na minor issue na over a cup of coffee ay maaaring pag-usapan. Sa hinaharap bago pa man sumapit ang susunod na halalan ay nakasisigurong magkakaroon na ito nang kalutasan. Magpustahan man tayo!

MAKATAONG PAMAMAHALA SA PIITAN, IPINATUTUPAD

Camp Vicente Lim – Ipinatutupad ng pambansang pamunuan ng Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) ang maayos at makataong pamamahala ng mga piitan sa buong kapuluan sa kabila ng kakulangan ng pondong gugulin ng naturang ahensya.

Sa talumpating binigkas ni Jail Director Rosendo M. Dial kaugnay sa pagdiriwang ng ika-17 taon ng BJMP ay kanyang nilinaw na hindi dapat maging sagwil sa makataong pagse-serbisyo ng isang jail personnel ang ano mang kakapusan, manapa’y dapat tanggapin itong isang hamon sa ngalan ng public service.

Ang serbisyo publiko aniya magkaminsan ay may tagumpay at kabiguan, na nararamdaman ang hirap kung laging isasaisip ang kakulangan ng tauhan, pasilidad at inmates subsistence at iba pang nakapagpapahina sa isang lingkod bayan sa pagtupad ng kanyang tungkulin, kung kaya dugtong pa ng heneral na hindi dapat sumuko at gawin itong inspirasyon upang hindi magkaroon ng kapaguran.

Dahil sa ipinakitang kahusayan at katapatan sa paglilingkod ay pinasalamatan ni Heneral Dial ang lahat ng kawani ng bureau sabay hiling sa mga ito na magpatuloy. Kinilala niya sa tulong ni RD J/S Supt. Norvel M. Mingoa ang mga namukod tangi kaugnay ng kanilang anibersaryo ang mga sumusunod: District Jail of the Year, Quezon District Jail; City Jail of the Year, Tagaytay City Jail at Municipal Jail of the Year, Dasmariñas Municipal Jail.
