GOV. NANTES SETS RDC 2009 - 2ND QTR. MEET

Lucena City - The Calabarzon Regional Development Council (RDC) has set its 2nd quarter full council meeting for the year on May 14, 2009 at Kamayan sa Palaisdaan in Barangay Dapdap, Tayabas, Quezon.

This was announced by Quezon Governor Rafael Nantes in his capacity as RDC Chairman in Region 4A comprising the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon to all provincial, city and municipal planning officers.

Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) Sec. Leandro Mendoza, the Cabinet Officer for Regional Development (CORD) is the resource speaker and will share his thoughts on the government information campaign strategy in addressing the impact of global financial crisis.

Also expected to attend are local government unit executives from governors, city and municipal mayors, and other LGU officials whose primary functions are planning and development concerns of their locality.

Governor Nantes enjoins all members of the council to personally attend for their presence will mean a great help in reaching a consensus for a unified stand in battling the economic crisis. (NANI CORTEZ)

BATANGAS CITY TO HOST WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

Batangas City - The World Environment Day (WED), a United Nations mandated program and advocacy that promote awareness on the puzzle of impending global climate change is slated to be held in this port city on June 1-7, with a theme “Your Planet Needs You! Unite to Combat Climate Change!”

Host City Mayor and concurrent chairman of WED Philippine 2009 Eduardo B. Dimacuha said that the event will bring together local stakeholders in partnership with local civil society environmentalists, civic and professional groups, academic institutions, non-government organizations, national and local instrumentalities for a discussion in reaching a unified plan of action to address global climate change.

Mayor Dimacuha stressed that the alarming occurrence of extreme weather conditions that causes heat waves and floods from pollution of air, water and surroundings are manifestations for a need to forge a collective path in combating global warming.

The mayor further said that all nations no matter how great or small, fully developed or developing must act with decisiveness to ensure mankind survival on planet Earth.

“And act now we must before it is too late” said Dimacuha as he extends the invitation to all provincial, city and municipal officials to take part and be heard during the celebration of World Environment Day.

GREEN CAMP June 4-7 – Collegio ng Lunsod ng Batangas - Environmental related activities of Boy Scout and Girl Scout of the Philippines.

ENVIRONMENTAL PARADE/A Day of Clean Air June 5 – A grand opening of NON-MOTORIZED parade to be participated in by the multi-sectoral groups with awards for Best Float and Best Contingent. Coincidentally with a car less/smoke free day in the city street where walking and biking for a clean air are encourage.

HANDSHAKE and HUGS for EARTH SYNERGY June 5, 7 p.m. at Chiz Amis Garden, Hilltop - the highlight fellowship activity where various sector leaders and multi-races meet and greet for the environment.

GARBO-FORESTRY June 7, 7:00 a.m. at Old City Dumped Site – A continuous effort of reforestation and rehabilitation program of Mayor Dimacuha in converting a closed city dumped site into a green park and wildlife sanctuary.

LAKAN at LAKAMBINI ng KALIKASAN ng PILIPINAS 2009 SEARCH - June 6, 7:00 p.m. at Batangas City Sports Coliseum - Search for a lady and gentleman from different provinces and cities nationwide vying for said title to become the Philippine Ambassador for the Environment.

This pageant was launched in 1999 as a highlight for city’s clean and green program, that for the sake of environment the City Government of Batangas through Mayor Dimacuha has graciously lent franchise with WED Philippines, for re-launched on a national level to give face for the celebration of 2009 World Environment Day.

WED Philippines Annual General Assembly meanwhile will be held at Sangguniang Panlunsod session hall on June 7 at 1:00 o’clock in the afternoon.
